Here is a flow chart to illustrate what is going to happen and what to expect:

Phase 1 -
PRE-OPERATIVE REHAB
The pre-operative stage is as important as the recovery and post-operation phases.

We help you to:
-
Settle acute symptoms from an injury.
-
Optimise swelling as much as possible.
-
Regain a good level of strength and function before surgery (e.g., regular use of ice, range of motion (ROM) exercises, low-impact aerobic exercises as tolerated).
-
Progress strength training in parallel with the clinical condition of the injured part.
-
Discuss with your specialist and our physiotherapist for a return to training and sports plan.

Tell us your concerns and goals.

Phase 2 -
RECOVERY FROM SURGERY
Any surgery is traumatic. Please take it easy for 1-2 weeks. We are here to assist you in your recovery:
-
Optimise swelling and minimize the level of pain.
-
Strictly follow your surgeon's recommendations regarding the ROM brace/sling.
-
Improve the range of motion within the recommended restriction.
-
Engage in gentle muscle activation and relaxation.
-
Restore a good level of daily living function.

Phase 3 -
POST-OPERATIVE REHAB
If you come to see our physiotherapist after surgery, we will discuss a return-to-work/sports/training plan that is criteria-driven.
Our rehab sessions include the following:
-
Identify contributing factors leading to existing injury or re-injury.
-
Optimise your movement pattern.
-
Regain and improve your joint mobility, strength, stability, and coordination.
-
Perform a high volume of specific exercises to rebuild muscle memory and confidence.
-
Assess the key functional outcomes that must be met before returning to work/sports/training.
